trans-mission — 20th Anniversary Edition – Fully Remastered

Liner Notes — trans-mission EP (20th Anniversary Remastered Edition)

trans-mission formed in 2003 in St. Petersburg, Florida, between two lifelong friends who had been playing in local bands together since high school. From the beginning, the band lived on stage, performing hundreds of shows across the Tampa Bay region and throughout the Southeast United States. The band played its final show in 2007 at The Orpheum in Ybor City.

In 2005, trans-mission entered negotiations with major labels, including Sony and Hollywood Records, but ultimately chose not to proceed. They remained what they had always been at heart, a live band. Sharing stages with artists including The Pixies and The Bravery, they built their following through performance rather than studio output.

Though trans-mission was always a duo, critics often noted the band's innovative use of live looping and stage technologies, layering phrases in real time to create the impression of a much larger ensemble. Their sound was melodic and progressive, grounded in rock and roll roots while drawing from a wide range of influences. Frequently compared to many styles but never confined to one, the band maintained a distinct and original voice, not only in their songwriting but also in the way they shaped the live experience. Performance, texture, and thoughtful stage design came together to create something immersive and uniquely their own.

Only eight songs were ever recorded, and just five reached production. These sessions took place in the studio of Mansion's cousin and close friend, Brian Sharp, a gifted musician and songwriter who tragically passed away shortly after the initial recordings. The tracks remained unfinished and unheard for over a decade.

Years later, Mansion returned to the sessions, re editing and completing the material. This 20th Anniversary Remastered Edition captures the band's raw energy and spirit as it was meant to be heard. The song "Chain Reaction" is sourced from a live performance recorded at The Garage on Central, now closed, in St. Pete in 2006, preserving a defining moment of the band's incredible live sound.

This release stands as both a historical artifact and a tribute to the music, to Brian, to the venues that gave the band room to grow, and to the many supportive local fans who carried the momentum from beginning to end.

Track listing: 1. mister scientist, 2. chain reaction (live at Garage. St. Pete 2005), 3. hot to cold, 4. spanish umbrella, 5. kids on the other side, 6. other side (instrumental)
